Being an artist is difficult. As an artist, you are always in the process of creation, research, search for inspiration and new challenges. In this process it is always good to go back to the classics and be in touch with those great work of art. Inspired by Johannes Vermeer's, truly unforgettable masterpiece, "The Girl with the Pearl Earring" dating from 1665, I wanted to pay homage to her by reintroducing her into the world of digital art and pop culture.

So I decided to recreate this masterpiece by using the technique of low poly - low resolution in 3D. For me it was a real chalenge to mix low poly technique with this masterpiece of Dutch Golden Age. The finishing touch of this illustration is the switch of the famous pearl by the head of a Stormtrooper character from the Star Wars saga. With this illustartion, I also wanted to pay tribute to all resistant, strong, women by making the girl wear the Stormtrooper's head in her earring as a kind of trophy.
